ABOUT SEE YOUR DOLLAR ACADEMY
See Your Dollar Academy is a Louisiana-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created to support individuals, families, and communities seeking practical financial education and character development.
At the center of our work are young people who deserve an opportunity to understand finances before they are required to make life-changing financial decisions.
However, we recognize that raising and preparing a young person requires a village. That is why our work is also designed to support the parents, educators, mentors, family members, and community leaders helping guide them.
WHO WE ARE HERE TO SERVE
See Your Dollar Academy serves:
• Youth and young adults preparing for financial independence
• Parents and caregivers seeking financial resources for their children
• Educators looking for practical material to support classroom instruction
• Mentors working to guide young people toward productive decisions
• Schools and youth-development programs
• Nonprofit and community-based organizations
• Faith-based organizations
• Correctional, reentry, and violence-prevention programs
• Adults who may not have received practical financial education earlier in life
Our resources are intended to meet people where they are—whether they are encountering these concepts for the first time, strengthening their existing understanding, or helping someone else learn.
SUPPORTING PARENTS AND FAMILIES
Many parents want their children to understand money, saving, investing, credit, debt, business, and the responsibilities that come with earning an income.
However, wanting to provide that knowledge and knowing where to begin are two different things.
Parents may be balancing demanding work schedules, household responsibilities, and the everyday challenges of raising a family. Some may not have received a complete financial education themselves. Others may understand the information but need help organizing it into a form that is understandable and engaging for their children.
See Your Dollar Academy was created to help make that process easier.
A parent does not have to be a financial expert or develop an entire curriculum from scratch. Our educational resources can provide the starting point, structure, examples, and discussion material needed to begin learning together.
SUPPORTING THE VILLAGE
We believe responsibility for preparing the next generation should not rest upon parents alone.
Teachers, mentors, coaches, relatives, faith leaders, nonprofit organizations, and other trusted adults all have opportunities to reinforce valuable information and help young people recognize what is possible for their lives.
See Your Dollar Academy provides the village with resources that can help begin those conversations.
An educator may use a lesson to support classroom instruction.
A mentor may watch a video with a young person and discuss what they learned.
A parent may use the workbook to guide conversations at home.
A community organization may introduce the program to the families it serves.
Each person may contribute differently, but everyone can help move the information forward.
WHY WE DO THIS WORK
Too many people are introduced to financial responsibilities before they are introduced to financial understanding.
Young adults may begin earning income, using credit cards, borrowing money, signing contracts, purchasing vehicles, or making career decisions without fully understanding how those choices can affect their futures.
We want to help people receive this information earlier—before avoidable financial mistakes become long-term financial burdens.
We also want learners to understand that lasting success requires more than financial knowledge. Discipline, integrity, accountability, patience, consistency, sound judgment, and a willingness to continue learning all influence what someone does with the opportunities and information they receive.
OUR ROLE
See Your Dollar Academy is not here to replace parents, teachers, mentors, or community organizations.
We are here to support them.
Our role is to create practical educational resources, make the information easier to understand, and provide families and organizations with a structured place to begin.
We believe that when the village has access to the right resources, more people can participate in preparing the next generation.
No single parent, educator, mentor, or organization can reach everyone.
But every one of us can help reach someone.
That is why our mission depends upon partnership, participation, and the continued circulation of the information.
